This year is set to be another monumental 12 months for Centrepoint, pushing our aim of eradicating homelessness forward and giving us the ability to help even more young vulnerable people to establish a stable future. Here, Centrepoint CEO Seyi Obakin talks us through what the year holds, from developing projects to exciting new services.
"2020 marks the beginning of a new decade, and opens a new chapter in Centrepoint’s story.
Last year we marked our 50th anniversary with events across the year, including a fundraising gala attended by Centrepoint’s long-standing patron The Duke of Cambridge.
2019 also saw the further development of our programmes to support homeless young people into work.
Our training service, Centrepoint Works, received a positive monitoring review from Ofsted, and we opened our first apprenticeship house with rents capped at a third of a young person’s training salary.
The apprenticeship house was the first step in our Independent Living Programme. This year we will be delivering 80 units for independent living across Manchester and London. Alongside this, we will be refurbishing our city centre service in Manchester to ensure we can continue to support the needs of homeless young people there for many years to come.
Alongside new services in London, in 2020 we will continue to support young people across Manchester, Yorkshire, and the North East through our hostels. We will also continue to develop the Centrepoint Helpline, through which we now provide help to more than 5,000 young people a year.
Without your help Centrepoint could not provide the support we know is vital to changing a young person’s story.
So whether it is through the generosity of a financial donation, or by supporting our policy campaign to enable young people leaving hostels to claim the same as their older peers, thank you.
Together we can, and we must, change the story for homeless young people."
