Winter fundraising guide

A guide to fundraising during Winter with ideas to tie in with national and international celebrations

National Apprenticeship Week

National Apprenticeship Week is in January. Centrepoint provides short vocational courses for different industries, traineeships and apprenticeships, and employability skills such as CVs and job interviews. 60% of Centrepoint residents who took training courses in 2020/21 finished with a qualification.

It's also Student Volunteering Week (February) and Random Act of Kindness Day (February) during Winter.

Top fundraising ideas for Winter

Christmas Jumper Day (December)

Hold a Christmas Jumper Day at your school or workplace. Ask colleagues or classmates to make a suggested donation to Centrepoint in order to take part. The gaudier the better!

The Festival of Winter Walks (December)

Plan your route and get sponsored to go on a long winter walk with friends and family. Make sure to wrap up warm! Alternatively, you could set yourself the challenge of walking a certain amount of steps each day in December. Email us beforehand to request your branded t-shirt to wear.

New Year’s Eve (31 December)

Invite friends and family round to see in the New Year in style. Get dressed up, put on a spread, share your resolutions and countdown to the year ahead. You’ll all be singing Auld Lang Syne come midnight. Set a fundraising target and ask everyone to make a donation to Centrepoint to attend.

Burns Night (25 January)

Liven up the dreariest month of the year by hosting a Burns Night with friends. Invite everyone round for haggis, neeps and tatties and do a dramatic reading of Robbie Burns’ poetry. You could even wear a kilt! Ask everyone to make a donation to Centrepoint to attend.

Valentine's Day (14 February)

Why not play cupid and host a speed dating night for all your single friends? You could either do this at home or ask your local pub if you could hire out their upstairs room. Hand out cards with everyone’s name listed and guests can tick or cross whether they want someone’s phone number. Assign a time limit to each date and rotate all the guests once it’s up. You could suggest funny talking points to get the chat flowing. Ask guests to make a donation to Centrepoint to take part.

Shrove Tuesday (February)

Host a flipping fantastic pancake party for all your friends and family. Invite them all round for delicious pancakes and toppings. Ask them all to donate to Centrepoint to attend. You could also have a decorating and flipping competition with an extra donation to enter!
