Vicky Pattison, TV star and winner of I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here in 2015, slept out on the Centrepoint Garden at the prestigious RHS Flower Show in West London in order to raise awareness of the thousands of young people forced to sleep rough across the country.
Vicky said: “It wasn’t the best night’s sleep - but I knew I was safe and that I’d be able to go home to my own bed tonight. It’s not right that so many young people go to sleep terrified for their own safety without knowing how to find somewhere safe to stay.”
129,000 people aged between 16 and 24 faced homelessness in the UK last year according to Centrepoint - the highest number the charity has ever recorded.
Vicky’s Sleep Out was not intended to replicate the terrifying reality of rough sleeping and does not try to - her experience was intended to be uncomfortable but took place in a managed environment where she was never at risk in the same way hundreds of young people with nowhere safe to stay are.
