Nora, 23, came to Centrepoint with her young son after leaving her home due to a family breakdown. The council moved her into unsuitable housing and she was referred to Centrepoint's mother and baby home where she has been staying since. Her and her son have been taking this time, whilst she is on maternity leave, to bond and develop their relationship before Nora returns to work in the NHS.
Emma, 17, came to Centrepoint after experiencing a breakdown in the relationship with her mum, which meant she had to leave the family home. She began sofa surfing, moving between family and friends, and occasionally spending nights on buses. Her social worker became aware of her living situation and made a referral to Centrepoint and soon she was moved into her own flat within a supported home. Despite only being at the home for a few weeks, Emma has settled in well to her new space is already taking strides towards finding a job and becoming independent in the future.
Katelin, 23, has recently started in her dream role as a midwife, which she has been working towards since the COVID lockdowns. After leaving her family home at 17 following a breakdown in the relationship, she moved into a hostel, where she created her five year plan. She then moved into a Centrepoint Independent Living home where she could make her dreams a reality.
Morgan, 27, first came to Centrepoint after he was unable to stay at university due to his neurodivergence, resulting in a breakdown in family relationships. After sofa surfing and sleeping rough, he was referred to Centrepoint where he stayed in a supported home for a few years, getting the opportunity to grow his interest in taking co-design approaches and working collaboratively with different teams. He is currently a member of the Lived Experience Advisory Board (LEAB) and has a dream of one day working for Centrepoint and giving back to the organisation that supported him.
Ari (21), who is non-binary, left home following a relationship breakdown with their parents. After staying with their aunt for a week, they reached out to their local council for support. Ari was referred on to Centrepoint in Bradford where they received mental health and employment support. Ari has since moved into independent accommodation and is looking forward to the future.
When Danny first arrived at SLEAP (A Centrepoint partner organisation based in Lancashire), according to his own words "he did not exist". He had been rough sleeping for two years and he had no documents. Despite this difficult start, Daniel has turned his negative experiences into motivation to help others. He has won the 2021 Centrepoint Partner’s Inspiration Award.
Mitak received floating support from Centrepoint when he left the care system. Centrepoint helped Mitak to focus on his goals and follow his dreams. Today Mitak has written a book on his life story and set up his own digital marketing business.
Dale’s Centrepoint journey has been long and multifaceted. It started when he was just 17. He is now 23, has graduated with a first class honours degree in Sociology and Criminology and has recently moved into one of our independent living properties.
Our research estimates that 129,000 young people approached their council because they were homeless or at risk in the financial year 2021/2022.
Centrepoint supported Antonio with securing housing and an apprenticeship in hospitality. He is now living independently on the Kent coast with his fiancée and hopes to one day run his own bar.
