Payroll Giving is a tax-efficient way for employees in the UK to support charitable causes they care about. Through this form of giving, your donation is deducted from your pay before tax. This means it costs less, and your support goes so much further towards helping us end youth homelessness – for good.
Why choose Payroll Giving to support Centrepoint?
- Your donation is deducted from your salary before tax, so a £10 pledge will only cost £8 for a standard rate tax payer or £6 for a higher rate tax payer. You will be able to make a bigger impact and it will cost you less. £10 a month could help give homeless young people a safe place to live, and support them into education or a job.
- You will be supporting us through a regular donation, investing in our long-term strategy and allowing us to support homeless young people throughout their entire journey to independence – one day at a time.
- It’s easier to set up than a direct debit, and more beneficial to both you and us than Gift Aid. You can choose which charity (or charities) you support, how much you’re giving and how frequently, and you can stop any time.
I’m an employee – how does Payroll Giving work?
If your employer is already running a scheme, your payroll department can start deducting your donations from your pay as soon as you inform them you’d like to set up a regular donation to Centrepoint. Each payday, your donation will be taken directly out of your gross salary, after National Insurance is deducted, but before tax.
There is no minimum or maximum, and you can stop or amend your donation at any time.
You can also sign up directly online. If your employer doesn’t run a scheme, or you’re not sure, fill in the form and we’ll take it from there.
I’m an employer – how does Payroll Giving work?
Payroll Giving is a phenomenal way to boost staff engagement, increase participation in charitable activities (and progress towards your CSR goals), and prove to your team that you are committed to making a difference. It is easy to set up and there are very few costs.
You will need to sign up with one of the HMRC-approved payroll giving agencies, who collect donations and distribute them to the chosen charities. The main agencies are Charities Trust, Charitable Giving, and Charities Aid Foundation (CAF).
Staff can then sign up by informing payroll of their decision. Each month, you will take out the donations out of the employees’ gross pay and send it to the agency for disbursement. Agencies usually charge a small admin fee, which you can choose to pay on behalf of your staff if you wish.
To promote a scheme, you can do it yourself, or work with a professional recruitment organisation (PFO). We work with all the main PFOs on the market, broadening our ability to recruit committed supporters.
