Nationwide provide ‘life-changing experience’ for young people

Over the summer, our fantastic partner Nationwide supported a cohort of young people with a week of work experience as part of Centrepoint’s Get Set Go programme.

Get Set Go is a work-focused scheme providing unemployed young people aged 16-24 with a package of tailored support to develop their skills and confidence.

We teamed up with Nationwide’s Early Careers and Social Impact team, who developed a rich and rewarding week of work experience. With interesting insights into what makes a Building Society, and the chance to meet colleagues across a variety of departments, the young people were given a taste of the different careers available and pathways to achieve them. They even had the opportunity to meet Nationwide’s CEO, Dame Debbie Crosbie.

The week was hugely impactful, for Nationwide, Centrepoint and the young people who took part.

Speaking about the experience, a colleague in Nationwide’s Early Careers team shared:

“It was a genuine pleasure to welcome them, and wanted to share how impressed I was by their conduct and engagement throughout the week. Each of them demonstrated outstanding behaviours, showing curiosity, enthusiasm, and a real willingness to learn. They actively participated in all sessions, asked thoughtful questions, and interacted confidently with everyone they met. They were a credit to themselves and we feel privileged to have played a small part in their development journey.”

Pedro, Centrepoint’s Trainer, highlighted how fantastic and supportive Nationwide have been: “Just wanted to say a big thank you to Nationwide for really understanding our young people and giving them such a life changing experience. Right from the start Nationwide made us and the young people involved feel comfortable. A real turning point was when they got to meet Joe online - that was a great icebreaker and helped everyone relax.”

One of the partipants who attended the week shared: “I had a lovely time at Nationwide and learnt loads about the different departments. All the staff were really helpful and supportive.”

A huge thank you to Nationwide and all the colleagues who supported the young people during the week. We’re incredibly proud of our partnership and all the ways Nationwide are helping us to end youth homelessness.
