Leave a Gift in your will | Frequently Asked Questions

Thinking about giving a gift to Centrepoint in your Will? Here's what you need to know.

What is the importance of making a will?

Making a Will and ensuring a secure future for family and friends is one of the most valuable decisions that everyone will have to consider within their lifetime.

What happens if there is no Will?

If you pass away without a Will, you don't get a say in who inherits your property, possessions and money. It's possible that the law would distribute these in the way you want but it's best not to take that risk.

How do I leave a gift in my Will?

It's simple. We've put together a guide to making a Will and leaving a gift which we hope will make this clear. Order yours now.

Why are legacy gifts so important to Centrepoint?

Legacy gifts are incredibly generous gestures. They help us think big and be even more ambitious in helping homeless young people. No matter how big or small, a gift in your Will to Centrepoint will help us be where we’re needed most, helping those who need us most. Leaving a legacy to Centrepoint is an opportunity for you to make a significant positive impact on the lives of many homeless young people.

I don’t think my estate adds up to much. Is it still worth making a Will or leaving a legacy?

You might be surprised about your wealth, especially if you own your own home and have life insurance or savings. Making a Will is the only way to ensure that the people you love and the causes closest to your heart benefit from your estate as you want them to. Order a guide to making a Will above.

Can I make a Will myself or do I need to use a professional?

There is no legal requirement to use a solicitor when making a Will. However, disputes that arise over unclear or poorly drafted Wills can be complicated and costly in the future. Using a solicitor who is qualified in estate law allows you peace of mind and should also reduce the risk of disputes arising at a later date. Where possible, it is advisable to discuss your plans and wishes regarding your Will with your family and loved ones.

What’s the best way to remember Centrepoint in my Will?

The best way to benefit a charity is often with a residuary legacy. Giving in this way means your gift won’t decrease in value due to inflation and can therefore make your legacy go further and benefit more people. Your solicitor or Will writer will be able to advise you on the best option for your circumstances and recommended wording to discuss with them is available.

Should I let Centrepoint know my decision?

We appreciate that leaving a gift in your Will is very personal and it’s entirely up to you. We understand the content of your Will is a very private matter. However if you could let us know, whatever your decision, we’d be very grateful. It will allow us to communicate with you in the best way, and to say a very big thank you if you have chosen to remember us. Any information you provide will be treated in the strictest confidence, will not be shared with third parties and is not legally binding. You can email us here or call the Legacy team on 0207 423 6290.
