Creating places to call home

Last year, your generosity meant that we could begin our project to transform Centrepoint’s accommodation services into homes that truly meet young people’s needs – created together with them, and with their healing in mind.

Ending youth homelessness takes more than just a roof over your head. Young people need a home - a safe, secure and welcoming place to stay where they can settle in, overcome the trauma they’ve experienced and get ready to live independently.

Our goal is to refurbish 60 services to the Centrepoint Supported Housing Property Standard. We want our services to be places that residents are proud to invite their friends to, where they won’t feel the shame and stigma of homelessness and will experience life as part of a home and a supportive community.

Last year, multiple new kitchens were fitted across some of Centrepoint’s services for young people to enjoy cooking and relaxing in, new windows for plenty of light, and transformed bathrooms, flooring and decoration throughout. Specifications were made together with young people and staff, ensuring their ideas of what makes a home were centred in the design.

“The service refurbishment has meant the world to the young people who live there. Every single one has thanked us and told us that this is much better than anywhere that they have lived before. One young person even mentioned how sad they are that they will move out in the future because they don’t want to leave such a nice place! As their Key Worker, you directly see the big difference; that their life improves in this environment.”
