About the role

Description

A weekly Gardener role to manage and maintain the allotment and flowerbeds in the Quarry View garden.

Summary

  • Monitoring the health of all plants and greenscapes
  • Dig, plant and weed flowerbeds and allotment patches
  • Watering and feeding plants and vegetable patches
  • Fertilising the allotment patches and flowerbeds
  • Weeding the flowerbeds and allotment patches
  • Control pests that damage plants
  • Plan and arrange the planting of the flowerbeds and vegetable patches
  • Manage and rotate compost bins

Requirements

Volunteers should meet the following criteria:

Essential

  • Enthusiasm and a passion for gardening
  • Ability to communicate confidently and clearly with young people, other volunteers and staff
  • Understanding of the importance of teamwork; commitment to being part of a team
  • Able to work unsupervised
  • Resilience, patience and an ability to motivate young people to participate in maintaining and managing the garden
  • Ability to remain calm when involved with challenging individuals and situations
  • Organisational and preparation skills
  • Good communication skills

Desirable

  • Understanding of the practical and emotional issues facing young people
  • A commitment to demonstrating Centrepoint’s values
  • Experience working with young people or disadvantaged groups 

What we need from you

Before starting the role we will require the following:

  • Undergo Centrepoint Enhanced DBS process - we are unable to accept DBS certificates from other organisations
  • Provide ID to support your DBS application
  • Provide the name and contact information of two people who can provide a reference for you
  • Undergo Centrepoint core induction training 
  • Undergo Coaching Mindset training within 6 months of commencing the volunteering role 

You may also be required to undertake further role specific training courses throughout the duration of your volunteering role.
