About the role

Description

You will be supporting our young people by volunteering on an ad hoc basis to invigilate exams for:

  • Functional skills
  • Health and Safety in construction
  • Essential Digital Skills

These exams are held as and when the learner is ready, they are not bound by time constrictions from awarding organisations. We will let you know timings and location at least one week before we need an invigilation. At the moment we are holding the exams at our Camperdown Street Head Office and Camberwell Foyer. In the future we may also hold them at St John’s at Waterloo. 

Summary

  • Support trainers with preparing room and candidates for exams
  • Providing a calm and quiet environment for candidates taking exams
  • Respond appropriately to any needs that candidates may have during an examination
  • Keep time 
  • Ensure candidates obey the regulations of the examination room
  • Oversee collection of answer sheets at the end of the exam
  • Provide basic technical support where online test are used
  • Ensure no disruptions to exam room for candidate
  • Assist in other activities as may be reasonably requested

Requirements

Volunteers should meet the following criteria:

Essential

  • Good verbal and written communication skills and the ability to relate well to young people
  • Attention to detail
  • Understanding of the test conditions and invigilation
  • Ability to work constructively and flexibly as part of a team
  • Ability to deal calmly with different situations as they arise
  • Understand and respect the principles of confidentiality

Desirable

  • Good numeracy/literacy skills
  • Confidence with everyday technology
  • Experience working as an invigilator within learning environments
  • Experience working with young people

What we need from you

Before starting the role we will require you to do the following:

  • Undergo Centrepoint Enhanced DBS process - we are unable to accept DBS certificates from other organisations
  • Provide ID to support your DBS application
  • Provide the name and contact information of two people who can provide a reference for you
  • Undergo Centrepoint core induction training and invigilation training

You may also be required to undertake further role specific training courses throughout the duration of your volunteering role.
