About the role

Description

As a Volunteer Receptionist at our Westminster service, you will be a first point of contact with a focus on meeting and greeting young people service users, visitors and staff colleagues and as they enter the building. You will be helping with enquiries in person and/or via email/telephone, with opportunities to assist with other light duties that could include activities in the centre to initial support for young people, and administrative tasks.

Summary

  • Managing ingress and egress of the building
  • Supporting teams with Health and Safety responsibilities 
  • Collaborative work with support teams
  • Be familiar with emergency procedures in case of fire, serious accident or violence
  • Sort mail, maintain building calendar, plan travel and light administration duties e.g. filing, making copies etc.

Requirements

Volunteers should meet the following criteria:

Essential

  • Ability to communicate confidently and clearly with young people, other volunteers and staff
  • Ability to remain calm when involved with challenging individuals and situations
  • Understanding of the issues – practical and emotional – facing young people
  • Understanding of the importance of teamwork and a strong commitment to being part of a team
  • Ability to develop a rapport with young people
  • Reliability, punctuality, and commitment to routine
  • Good communication skills, written and oral
  • Able to use Microsoft Office
  • A commitment to demonstrating Centrepoint’s values
  • A commitment to complete the necessary volunteer training sessions

Desirable

  • Administration/ Receptionist experience 
  • Experience of working with homeless people and/or experience of homelessness
  • Experience of working with socially excluded young people 

What we need from you

Before starting the role we will require the following:

  • Undergo Centrepoint Enhanced DBS process – we are unable to accept DBS certificates from other organisations
  • Provide a minimum of three forms of ID to support your DBS application
  • Provide the name and contact information of two people who can provide a reference for you
  • Undergo Centrepoint core induction training
  • Within six months of commencing your role, you will be required to attend Coaching Mindset training

You may also be required to undertake further role specific training courses throughout the duration of your volunteering role.
