About the role
Description
This is a new and exciting role within our Hammersmith services team.
As an Independent Living Skills Coach, you will be supporting the delivery of our Lifewise Programme in our Hammersmith service. Lifewise prepares Young People by developing their basic living skills, with short courses, and this role will be predominantly around cooking sessions.
We are looking for a volunteer to work with the young people to help them cook a weekly delicious meal that everyone; staff and young people alike, can enjoy together! You will work with the young people to choose what meals to make, supervise and assist with the cooking, plating up the food and then also with washing and tidying up afterwards.

Requirements
Volunteers should meet the following criteria:
ESSENTIAL:
- Food Hygiene certification or the willingness and ability to gain one
- Cooking experience and confidence in the kitchen
- Awareness of cultural requirements of food and cooking e.g. understanding of halal food
- Good levels of literacy and numeracy
- An understanding of different learning styles and methods to support learning
- IT competent- able to use Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Teams
- Ability to engage, motivate and inspire young people
- Ability to communicate confidently and clearly with young people, other volunteers and staff
- Ability to remain calm when involved with challenging individuals and situations
- Understanding of the issues – practical and emotional – facing young people
- Understanding of the importance of teamwork and a strong commitment to being part of a team
- Be reliable and have a positive outlook
- A commitment to demonstrating Centrepoint’s values
DESIRABLE
- Cooking experience / qualifications
- Experience of teaching/tutoring/ supporting learners
- Experience of working with homeless people and/or experience of homelessness
- Experience of working with socially excluded young people
What we need from you
Before starting the role we will require the following:
- Undergo Centrepoint Enhanced DBS process – we are unable to accept DBS certificates from other organisations
- Provide a minimum of three forms of ID to support your DBS application
- Provide the name and contact information of two people who can provide a reference for you
- Undergo Centrepoint core induction training
- Within six months of commencing your role, you will be required to attend Coaching Mindset training
You may also be required to undertake further role specific training courses throughout the duration of your volunteering role.
