About the role

Description

This is a new and exciting role within our Camden services team.

As an Independent Living Skills Coach, you will be supporting the delivery of our Lifewise Programme in our Camden service. Lifewise prepares Young People by developing their basic living skills, with short courses focused on managing money, cooking, and cleaning and fire safety. These are integral skills that will support Young People throughout their lives. 

Summary

  • Supporting Centrepoint teams with the delivery of the Lifewise programme
  • Using initiative to engage young people with the Lifewise programme
  • Support young people to learn and develop independent life skills
  • Adhere to administrative requirements of the role

Requirements

Volunteers should meet the following criteria:

ESSENTIAL: 

  • Good levels of literacy and numeracy
  • An understanding of different learning styles and methods to support learning
  • IT competent- able to use Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Teams
  • Ability to engage, motivate and inspire young people
  • Ability to communicate confidently and clearly with young people, other volunteers and staff
  • Ability to remain calm when involved with challenging individuals and situations
  • Understanding of the issues – practical and emotional – facing young people
  • Understanding of the importance of teamwork and a strong commitment to being part of a team
  • Be reliable and have a positive outlook
  • A commitment to demonstrating Centrepoint’s values

DESIRABLE

  • Experience of teaching/tutoring/ supporting learners 
  • Experience of working with homeless people and/or experience of homelessness 
  • Experience of working with socially excluded young people 

What we need from you

Before starting the role we will require the following:

  • Undergo Centrepoint Enhanced DBS process – we are unable to accept DBS certificates from other organisations
  • Provide a minimum of three forms of ID to support your DBS application
  • Provide the name and contact information of two people who can provide a reference for you
  • Undergo Centrepoint core induction training
  • Within six months of commencing your role, you will be required to attend Coaching Mindset training

You may also be required to undertake further role specific training courses throughout the duration of your volunteering role.

  • Structured induction and training 
  • Ongoing support and supervision from the Volunteering Team 
  • Ongoing support and supervision from supervisor 
  • Access to further training 
  • Travel and other reasonable expenses reimbursed
