Frequently Asked Questions about Sponsor a Room
What does £12 a month pay for?
Your £12 a month sponsorship helps fund the support and services young people who stay in Centrepoint rooms need. Your sponsorship will provide a haven and support network for young people to go on to secure a positive future. This includes, but is not limited to, assessments to ascertain what tailored support they need, their room, education including courses and health support.
Your help will contribute to the support and safety of young people staying at Centrepoint services across the country.
The true cost of providing a room and supporting a young person out of homelessness is significantly more than £12 a month which is why we need a community of valued supporters to help us change the lives of all the young people we support. This community includes support from government funding, corporate donors, community groups and of course individuals like you. It is only with this level of joint working that you can help young people fulfil their potential. We ask individuals for £12 a month as we feel that this is an amount sponsors might be able to afford, and an amount that will really make a difference to Centrepoint and the young people we support. We know that this investment can help save the public purse over £20,000 in the long-term as well as instilling a sense of belief in young people; so your investment now will have a truly long-term impact. The updates you receive from your young people staying in Centrepoint rooms will help illustrate how in very pragmatic terms.
How can I make changes to my direct debit?
We want to ensure sponsoring a room is as easy as possible. Should you wish to make any changes to how you give please just call our friendly supporter care team on 0800 23 23 23 or email email@example.com
Why has the logged in section gone?
If you had been sponsoring a room you will remember a logged in section where you could see updates. Please rest assured that you will still receive updates from Centrepoint. The logged in section made it harder than needed to view these. We would like to improve how easy it is for donors to manage communication preferences and their gift in future, however, and we’ll be sharing updates on this in future.
Are these young people real?
Yes. By sponsoring a room you are helping real young people who are living at Centrepoint. How young people choose to share their stories with us is very much determind by what they are comfortable with and in some cases we may need to protect identities by using models and changing names. However all their stories are true. There's no exaggeration and no other details have been changed.
Where is my room?
Your monthly gifts aren’t limited to an individual room. You help fund all of Centrepoint’s work. Working with partners we support as many as 9,000 homeless young people and help them rebuild their lives.
Am I the only person sponsoring a room?
No, you’re one of more than 20,000 incredible Centrepoint Room Sponsors who’ve decided to support homeless young people in this way.
How long do young people stay in the room?
On average, young people stay two years and the upper age limit is 25. Our aim is to ensure a young person moves on when they are able to live independently, which then allows someone else in need to take their place.
Can I visit a Centrepoint hostel?
We don’t open the doors to our hostels to visitors because our first priority is to protect young people. But we do invite you to events where you can hear young people and staff talk about the difference your support makes. Please call 0800 23 23 20 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to find out more.
What happens if I cannot continue my Centrepoint Room Sponsorship?
If your circumstances change and you can no longer continue as a Centrepoint Room Sponsor, please call our supporter care team on 0800 23 23 20 to let us know. And don't worry, there are other ways to support us to help homeless young people. Likewise, you can reinstate your Centrepoint Room Sponsorship at any time.
