Allotment Assistant (Barnsley)

Time Commitment: 7 hours/one day per week

As an Allotment Assistant, you’ll be supporting our ever growing and developing allotment plot in Barnsley. The role is varied and might include supporting young people on site or regularly maintaining the site on your own. Our Allotment Project is helping young people develop a wide range of skills, whilst growing food to help maintain a healthy diet.

Role summary

  • Support young people to learn and develop garden maintenance skills
  • Preparing the ground for planting
  • Helping to sow, grow, maintain and harvest vegetables
  • Keeping plants watered

Role requirements

Volunteers should meet the following criteria:

  • Understanding of allotment development
  • Understanding of growing seasons and harvest seasons
  • Experience in a similar role

Support for volunteers

  • Structured induction and training
  • Ongoing support and supervision from the volunteering team
  • Ongoing support and supervision from your supervisor
  • Access to further training
  • Travel and other reasonable expenses reimbursed
