We want you to have a fun and memorable time while being part of team Centrepoint. We have compiled a list of frequently asked questions below, which we hope will help you to prepare for the event. Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any further questions.

Where do we meet, and at what time?

We meet at Walltown Quarry Car Park, CA8 7HZ at 8.30am for a 9am start.

Is there parking?

There is a pay and display car park at the start point which costs approximately £4 per day.

Where do we finish, and at what time?

We finish at the George Hotel in Chollerford. There will be a coach available to shuttle participants back to their cars at the start point or you can choose to make your way home from the end point.

We anticipate the walk itself will take around 8 hours, plus lunch. We anticipate to arrive at the end point by 6pm and those using the shuttle bus back to their cars can expect to be back between 6.30pm-7.15pm.

How do I get there?

This rural location means that public transport is very limited. We recommend that all participants arrange to drive and car-share. Alternatively you can arrange your own minibus.

How fit do I need to be?

The route is designed to be challenging but is achievable for most people provided you train well in advance. When you sign up we'll email you a training guide to help you prepare. If you have any concerns about your health, please do let us know and consult your GP.

What will the terrain be like?

We trek mainly on gravel paths and grassy tracks. As we are trekking in the Northumberland National Park expect sections of steep uphill and downhill trekking on uneven terrain. Some sections may be muddy if it has rained so wearing suitable footwear is essential.

How will I find my way along the route?

Your walk will be fully guided by experienced company North East Guides. There will be one guide for every ten participants so you can walk at your own pace and won't get lost. There will also be members of the Centrepoint team taking part to help you along the way.

How long will it take?

This event is not a race; everyone should be able to walk at a comfortable pace. The 18 miles should take 7-8 hours in total with a total of an hour stopping for breaks and lunch.

Is there an age limit?

The minimum age limit for the challenge is 14. All participants must be at least 14 on the event day. Any participant under 18 will need an adult guardian and completed consent form.

What if the weather is bad?

We carry on! Do make sure you check the kit list and come prepared for all types of weather.

What will I need to carry?

You will need to be able to carry all essential kit required for the challenge e.g waterproofs, layers, water, sun cream, snacks. Check the full kit list to be sure of everything you will need. Make sure you have trained with your backpack, carrying everything you need, so that you are used to trekking with your pack at full weight.

What are the toilet facilities?

This is a rural hike and therefore toilet facilities are limited. There will be a public toilet at the start point, at the first break point and at the end of the challenge. There is also the opportunity to leave the route halfway to head to a public toilet, however this will add an additional mile on to the hike. Please do come prepared for all eventualities.

Where can I stay?

There are various accommodation options available on Hadrian's Wall in close proximity to our route. There are Bed and Breakfasts at various price-points and capacity. We end our route at the George Hotel in Chollerford which is an accommodation option.

Can I bring my dog?

No. We cannot be responsible for their welfare and landowners often ask us not to bring dogs onto their lands, which we must respect.

What happens in an emergency?

There will be first-aiders and a support vehicle. We will take your emergency contact details when you register.

Who will I be walking with?

Our participants will be from all walks of life and will share the common goal of wanting to help homeless young people.

How do I set up a fundraising page?

  1. Go to JustGiving.
  2. Click "Fundraise for us" and follow the step-by-step instructions.
  3. Personalise your page by adding a photo and explaining why you're supporting Centrepoint.
  4. Share the link to your page!

I have an injury and now I can't take part in the event I signed up for. What should I do?

Please contact our Events team as soon as possible on events@centrepoint.org to let us know and we’ll discuss your options.

What happens if I don't reach my fundraising target?

When you buy a Centrepoint charity place in an event, we ask you to reach a minimum fundraising target. The money you raise covers the cost of the event place and administration fees that Centrepoint have to pay for you to take part and helps us deliver the services we provide to homeless young people.

If you're concerned you won’t reach your fundraising target, please get in touch with us as soon as possible. We're on hand to help you out with tips and ideas that will help you reach your target and we may be able to extend your deadline so that you have that little bit longer to fundraise.
