Karmina had a difficult home life and lived in a cramped house with no living room and constant arguments around her. She had nowhere to study and fell further and further behind at school. She didn't have basic Maths skills - she even struggled to work out if she could afford her shopping.
Imagine the fear and embarrassment of struggling with such a basic task. Imagine your face turning red, your hands are shaking. You have no idea what to do. Without basic Maths and English, moments like this happened every single day for Karmina until she enrolled on the Centrepoint Functional Skills Programme.
Watch the video to find out the answer and how, together, we can help young people gain the skills they need.
Imagine you couldn’t buy essential food because you couldn’t work out if you had enough money. Imagine the terror of having no home, family or friends to support you. And worse still – imagine what all this would mean for any chance at a job in the future. No one should feel left behind like this.
Your donation can give more young people like Karmina the chance to escape homelessness for good.
Funds raised will go directly towards supporting the Functional Skills Programme as well as other areas of our work to support young people out of homelessness.
As a supporter of Centrepoint, you’re part of a community that has supported over 116,000 young people since 1969.
Trust is important to us. We promise to respect any personal data you share with us. We aim to be clear when we collect your data and not do anything you wouldn’t reasonably expect.
Every £1 donated saves the public purse £2.40. This means the services we provide reduce demand on health, social and judicial government services, among others.
We use models and change the names of the young people we work with to protect their identity, however, all stories are true and as told by the young person.
