Ellie Goulding takes to the trading floor to raise money for homeless young people
Pop superstar Ellie Goulding became City trader this week, helping to raise more than £50,000 for homeless young people.
The Centrepoint ambassador hit the trading floor as part of the annual BGC charity day along with TV host Lorraine Kelly and actor Sadie Frost, who are also amazing supporters of our work.
The trading day sees celebrity ambassadors swapping their TV studios and arena stages for the BGC Partners Ltd office in London to broker the sales of stocks and shares (with lots of help and prompts) for BGC clients. The commission raised from these sales is then shared between the celebs' chosen charities.
Lorraine Kelly started the trading day with a win, brokering a deal worth £2m with the help of employees of BGC.
‘I have no idea what I’m doing, but I know I’m having fun’, she said after scooping the amazing deal.
Sadie Frost, a natural on the trading floor, quickly followed the success of Lorraine by winning her first deal too, boosting the money raised to support homeless young people into a home and a job.
‘It’s great to be here to support Centrepoint and help them continue the great work that they do’, she said.
After an intense hour on the trading floor, it was Ellie’s turn to take to the phones. It wasn’t long before the deals were flying in, but the ever-cool Ellie remained calm and effortlessly brokered wins worth thousands of pounds.
First launched 13 years ago to commemorate the lives lost in the September 11th attacks in New York. BGC Charity Day brings together 20 charities for a day of brokering and fundraising for countless worthy causes.
Other celebs taking part included Mary Berry, Fearne Cotton, Sir Alex Ferguson, Rita Ora, Holly Willoughby, Dame Kelly Holmes, Rio Ferdinand, Sadiq Khan, Elizabeth Hurley, Alesha Dixon and Danny DeVito.
